Arms Contol and Humanitarian Disarmament
Arms control and humanitarian disarmament are central to the promotion of global peace and security. While arms control seeks to prevent the proliferation of weapons and reduce their destructive potential, humanitarian disarmament focuses on minimizing the suffering caused by specific weapons. Together, these efforts contribute to a safer, more peaceful world for all. By strengthening international treaties, addressing new technologies, and promoting global cooperation, we can work towards a future where weapons no longer endanger human lives, but rather, diplomacy and cooperation define the path forward.
SPADO, as a peace organization since its inception has contributed to many arms control and humanitarian disarmament initiatives. The organization has been regularly participating in national, regional and international peace and humanitarian disarmament forums both within and outside the United Nations. We work for the protection of civilians in armed conflicts, create and promote awareness and advocate for effective prohibitions and regulations on weapon systems that are indiscriminate and a grave threat to human life, the environment and global stability.
